Greeting the Morning Moon

Wait don't go Moon

Most mornings before as my husband heads out the door to go to work I am right in front of him; my van is parked in front of his in our driveway and needs to be parked on the street so he can get out.  Yesterday morning as I scurried back in from the cold I noticed the full moon as it made its appearance in the western sky behind our house.  Thin clouds glowing lovingly around it, stately Douglas fir, willowy bare branches and stately shrubs stood silhouetted in it's light;  I ran to get my camera.

It isn't often that such scenes capture my attention or that I get to see them at all since it does tend to rain here this time of year normally.  But this year is dryer and this moon, a full moon, was saying her goodbyes like a beautiful visitor, the earth and sky around her attending to her parting.  I only wish I could have gotten a better photo of it.  I was hampered by the chill and was shaking a bit but managed to get a couple good shots. This is my favorite.  Oh and I forgot to mention...the little verse I was inspired to write...yes it even made me wax poetic.

~ Enjoy ~

Morning Moon
How amazing this morning's sky,
Full moon lingers lighting the clouds
Birthing silhouettes of emerging landscape
A perfect frame for such a portrait
Just as the dark of night lingers
Before the dawning light of the sun
All gloriously painted by the hand of my God.

'Tis the Week Before Christmas

'Tis the week before Christmas
And all through the house,
Nothing looks different
not inside or out.
The stockings and tinsel are still in the bins,
No goodies are ready to fill the gift tins.
No presents are wrapped though simple they'll be,
No lights are a twinkling
And oh there's no tree.
 So what is the matter?
Why so curmudgeon?
Why did no cookies get baked in that oven?

Sometimes life gets crazy,
Sometimes its just big,
Some times are just harder
And spirits wear thin.
But even when seasons are not quite so jolly,
Our hearts they are filled with the first Christmas story.
When there in a manger the savior was laid,
Born of a virgin that first Christmas day.

And when all of the rest is not quite up to snuff,
We find ourselves left with what really is most
Of love that breathed life
And hope born of love
That God sent His son to earth from above.
You see its not really the things that we have,
Not presents, nor trees,
Nor turkey or ham.
Its much more than the trimmings
And wrapping and bows,
Its much more than carols
Sung as it snows.
Just past what you don't see,
Look and you'll find,
that though there's no tinsel,
No tree and no lights,
Our hearts they are filled
From inside to out.
And yes it is Christmas,
And by this there's no doubt.

Merry Christmas Everyone and may God bless.

Winter Poem

THE SOUND OF SNOW

Softly it falls upon branches
Softly it covers my roof
Floating, dancing, falling,
Striking ground, tree, blades of grass
Quiet muffler of noisy streets
I listen
I listen
As it dances down past the streetlights,
The tall trees, past my foot
Dancing downward,
downward
I listen for it’s sound to strike the chords of air
Announcing it’s landing
It’s resting on the branch
Upon the blade, upon the ground
Upon my face
Softly falls the snow this winter’s whisper
Without voice, a beautiful mute,
Voiceless singer
Stillness,
peaceful blanket of white
I listen, listen
For the sound of snow
